Bar Stories

Barcade

I had myself an epic time at ready player one this past weekend. Also known as a “Barcade” Ready player one had all the throw back games that most of us loved and enjoyed growing up in 80’s and 90’s. Games such as pac man and Frogger for the true old school arcade games to other games such as NBA Jam and Turtles In Time made this a must go to spot. Not to mention the great selection of beers and cocktails. Shout out to Brenda and her great suggestions of bars on this website, it truly makes a difference when you have an idea of places to check out when you’re tired of the same old spots.

Fresh Ink

What better way to celebrate a new tattoo than to go out for a cocktail afterwards and pretend you didn’t just spend all your money? I had sent a picture of my new lady to my friend and she asked if I was free for a drink and we headed over to Valentine’s to celebrate with a classy cocktail. While there I learned she had never been to The Oakland before, so of course I had to show her the other speakeasy of Ferndale. After fully catching up on each others’ lives, she headed home and I met other friends down at Bakersfield for a taco and a beer to end the night! Yeah it was just a Tuesday, but that doesn’t mean you can’t hit 3 spots in one night.

Girls night

We all have great intentions of having a ‘girls night in’ or ‘self-care’. But what if your idea of self care means going out for a beer after you bake some banana bread together? My friend said she hadn’t been back to Urbanrest since it opened, so we looked at each other and were both thinking the same thing. We made it for last call followed with a trip to Bobcat Bonnies for some of their tots. Next made it over to Danny’s for a game of darts to end the night.

Happy Hour diaries

As I waited for coworkers to finish sending emails to frantic clients, I headed to The Morrie to see my friend and she made me the best Brandy Alexander I’ve ever had (mostly because it’s the first one I’ve tried). When my coworkers were done we headed over to Imperial and loaded up on Veggie hot dogs and as many tacos as we could handle. Of course paired with their house margarita, we couldn’t go wrong!

Gather

I love nights where friends come together, they bring me so much joy and remind me how many awesome people I have in my life! I celebrated my friend’s birthday with a small handful of her favorite ladies with dinner at Gather Detroit. The ladies had their amazing looking cocktails and I got the ‘clint and chelsea’ - their fancy way of saying a dew and a brew. We then had more friends join us and we packed out Sneakers in Ferndale (yes they hit capacity). It was the perfect place to hangout and be loud.

January 28 (2019)

Tonight was supposed to consist of horribly snowy roads and frozen ice. This means that no one was out on the roads and it was a perfect night for a peaceful seat at Danny’s. I went out with my friend and ran into 2 other people we knew which made up the entire crowd. We had dance parties and ran the jukebox until 1am on a Monday. I call that a great start to the week!

Bumbos for the out-of-towners

So the places I love to go to—I talk about them a lot.. And if you follow me on Instagram, I tend to post about them a lot also. Enough to get questions. Therefore, people want to check em out with me! My friend from Ann Arbor (which also has amazing spots downtown) kept hearing about how much I loved it in Hamtramck and needed to come see for herself. She made the trek out—we each got a Frenchie—and loved it. Can’t wait for our next adventure.

Classy Birthday

People love to come to me when they have something to celebrate! However, this time I remembered a friends birthday (to which he called me a freak, but we’ll get into that another time). Anyway, I asked if he wanted to go anywhere specific and all he said was he wanted a “Claaassssy ass drink”. So of course I concocted a night of Wright & Co., The Candy Bar, and Kiesling. Two of which he’d never been to before. Everyone had an amazing and classy time.

(Coffee) Dates

ne of my dear girlfriends and I needed to get stuff done (including making this blog!) and also wanted to see each other’s faces since it had been a minute. We chose Great Lakes Coffee in Midtown to hangout with a glass of wine and our MacBooks to get some quality time in and crank out some great work. She’s an amazing designer so I was hoping to glean some talent by sitting next to her. I’m not sure that it worked…
